help :I-485 Adjustment of Status

Hi,
I have a question for a close friend of mine

His Status : 1. Working on H1-B visa currently
2. Married to US citizen in India (In Indian traditional way)
3. Did apply for marriage certificate but the officers were
delaying the process and were asking for money to get it
done faster
4. So he decided to not pay the money and then came back
to US and got married in US court(Civil marriage)
5. Got the marriage certificate and applied for immigration
papers
6. Got the EID and has the I-485 visa interview

So now he is worried as how to handle the marriage certificate issue for the interview. Not to discuss about it or straight forwardly say the true story? Has anyone gone through something like this or any of the people have gone through this ...please respond. Any other help related to interview would be welcome
