  • After EAD how to get Social Security Number

    Dear Praetorian XI,

I received my EAD card today. In fact I got it pretty fast (in just 60days). Its valdity is only one year.

I am expectig my Green Card to follow. My questions are

    1. Am I eligible to apply for Social Security Number now? If so where should I apply? I am staying in Redmond , Washington state.

    2. Do I have to renew my EAD after one year even if I get my Green Card? an

    3. Normally how long does it take to get Green card after one gets EAD ? My Notice of receipt is dt14th November 2007 (Family Petition-parent) . My finger printing was done on 8th Jan 2008

    regards

1.- Yes. Go to your local Social Security Administration Office. try www.ssa.gov to find the exact location.

2.- No. Once you get your GC you no longer need EAD.

3.- They are not related. The GC is independent processed from the EAD.

          I485

          Dear PraetorianXI

I have a good news to share.

My I 130 was approved yesterday and today I received a mail stating that they have ordered production of Card and the same will be sent within 30days. ( This is under the subject I485)

          1. Does this mean my I 485 has been approved?

          2. Is the Card they are referring to is Green Card?

          3. If so Can the Green Card be issued without interview?

          4. Can I go back to India and get back in about 4/5/months after winding up things there? or do I have to take permission to go to India?

Its amazing I got EAD as well as I 485 approval in 2.5 months. My receipt date is 12th November 2007

I have applied for Green card under Immediate relative Parent category.

          regards

            1. Does this mean my I 485 has been approved? PROBABLY, Does the approval mail says I-485 on it?

            2. Is the Card they are referring to is Green Card? IF the receipt mentions I-485 then YES.

            3. If so Can the Green Card be issued without interview? Yes. Specially for cases such as son/parent relationships

            4. Can I go back to India and get back in about 4/5/months after winding up things there? or do I have to take permission to go to India? No permission needed if your stay will be shorter than 6 months.

              Dear Praetorian XI

              Thanks for immediate reply

Yes the Receipt number refers to I485.

The letter shown below is the full letter I have received. It just says that the Card production is ordered. It does not say if my application is approved. I presume the card will be ordered only if the application is approved. Am I right?

The following is the mail I have received

On January 31, 2008, we ordered production of your new card. Please allow 30 days for your card to be mailed to you. If we need something from you we will contact you. You are approved. Congratulations. In 1-2 weeks your status will change to "approval notice sent" that is when they mail the actual Green Card.

Just sit back and relax now

                        citizenship

                        Hi,
I got my Green card on 30th Jan 2008. When will I be eligible to apply for citizenship?

If I get citizenship, how long have I to stay in US every year? Do I have to come to US every year?

In case I decide to surrender my Green card can I get visitor's visa gain? Will there be any concerns?

If I surrender my Green card,Can I apply for Green card again if required at a later date in my very old age?

Thanks for the advice in advance!!
