  • Marriage Based Green Card

I am an American Citizen. My wife's 2 year green card expires in 30 days. We have applied to remove the conditions. She has been out of the country due to a family illness for 7 months and won't return soon.

To turn in her green card and get her passport stamped for travel does she need to go back to the US? Can she get travel documents at a Consulate?

I am employed outside the US as a National Team Soccer
Coach. It that a valid reason for her absense?

    1. She needs to renew her green card in US.

    2. That is not valid reason.

Thank you for your fast reply.

It is a tempory green card. She is applying to have
the conditions removed. The 2 years ends in 30 days.
We have sent the application to remove the conditions
      in already.

She needs to turn in her green card and get her
passport stamped. Does she need to return to the US to
get it done? Can't she just do that at a US consulate
      here in Europe.

Sorry if I am repeating myself.

            Length of time...

On the uscis.gov webpage, it looks like they are running about 9 months on the I-130. I don't know what interviews you may have after approval, but it seems to take about one year for everything.
