How to seek extension for landing in US

I am seeking advice / shared experiences as to how one could seek extension for the initial landing in US after the consulate has issued the paperwork?

My sister is sponsored our parents & My mother received her paperwork after the interview at the consulate. She was advised to land within 6 months.
She would like to delay it by a year or so
Any help will be appreciated.

if she was issued an immigrant visa, she must use it within those 6 months. It can not be delayed. She would have to re-apply all over again.

before she can go back?

Until she gets her Green Card... which takes 2-3 months... but she is expected to STAY and LIVE in the USA... Otherwise she will lose the Green Card.
