Urgent: For PCC do we have to surrender passport

Hello All,

I am doing my mother's green card CP. I asked my mother to apply for
Police Clearance Certificate in Passport office. After filling the application and
money, they took her passport also.

Is it the standard process that we should surrender our passport when
we request for PCC in passport office? My mother applied in Visakhapatnam in A.P.

I really appreciate if someone can confirm this.

Yes, the district police station does take your passport to provide a PCC.

It is then sent back to your on-file address alongwith the certificate - sometimes you can get it hand-to-hand if you have good connections..
