  • Filing Family Based Gc

    I am married to a usc (3 months ago) and we are planning to file my gc application concurrently. I came to US on an f1 visa in 12/2004. The issue is that during 05/2006 my work authorization /cpt expired for 2 months and my I-20 was cancelled (actually we were 8 guys). We applied for reinstament through the school at 06/2006 and till today I have not received any written notice on the action taken on my application, even though the dso sent an assistant to tell me my application was denied. Meanwhile the rest of the guys involved in this case were sent written notice from ins telling them that thier applications were denied and that they should leave the country. While I was appling for the reinstatement I submited the original copy of my I-94. So now I have only the copy of the front part of the I-94.
    My questions are;
    1) Is it ok to submit copies of only the front part of the I-94 for gc appication?

    2)How will my case affect my application ?

    3) We plan filing the application by ourselves and hiring a lawyer later for the interview, is this wrong?

    Please I need your help. I believe you will respond even though no one responded to my last post.

    Getting married to a USC while in US should be able to erase your past immigration violation.
    There is nothing wrong in filing it yourself but hiring an attorney through the whole process will help. If at all you hire, you should hire a reputed attorney
    if you can afford one. Bad attorneys are known to make major mistakes.
