  • SSN For Mother after GreenCard

My Mother(from India), is currently residing with me and she has got her Greencard.(Permanent residency).

We are planning to apply for Medi-Cal(for California residents). She would need an SSN for that.

Could somebody highlight the advantage/disadvantage of obtaining SSN for her? Will she have to file taxes every year if she has an SSN(even though she does not have any income?)

    Thank you in advance

    yes, absolutely!! Huh ??!!

Yes, she needs her SSN for everything in United States.

I am sorry but there's no way you'll get by without an SSN so please don't bother trying to find out the advantages/disadvantages of having an SSN.

Speak with your CPA/financial advisor, he/she will help you with the system.

    Take care.

She will have to file taxes IF she passes the threshold of income every year. Some people do not, so don't worry about it.
