Background - I have filed joint return (married filing jointly) for years 2007(1040), 2006(1040A), 2005(1040A). My wife is a student and her income was negligible (and in 2007 she did not work at all) so almost 95-99%of income we reported was actually my income (supported by W2’s).
I received an approval notice for petitions I filed for my parents so I am filling out separate I-864’s and I do not need a co-sponsor (I-864A).
Can anyone please enter my questions in red?
Question 25 – I have filed a Federal tax return for each of the three most recent tax years. I have attached the required photocopy or transcript of my Federal tax return for only the most recent tax year.
My total income (adjusted gross income on IRS Form 1040EZ) as reported on my Federal tax returns for the most recent three years was
For year 2007(wife didn’t work, filed a joint return) - Should I enter my personal income for the year or enter total income reported on 2007 tax return form 1040 (line 22, 1040) which also included interest income from bank accounts in both my wife’s and my name?
Answer Please:
For year 2006 – question is same as above. As I do not intend to use my wife’s income and make her a joint sponsor should I just report what I earned in 2006 minus any interest income we earned?
For year 2005 – question is same as above. As I do not intend to use my wife’s income and make her a joint sponsor should I just report what I earned in 2005 minus any interest income we earned?
Hope I am not confusing myself and few others on the forum.
