Re-entery permit

Hi
My Mom is travelin abraod and her GC is expiring on May 08. She just got the re-entry permit ( Travel Doc) which is valid till 2010. Does anyone knows if she can still stay abroad and come next year and renew her Green card ?
Please help me....

She must apply for the renewal before she leaves. She should go to the USCIS office in person to renew her gc. One can apply for renewal upto 6 months in advance of expiry date. They will issue her a temporary proof of
permanent residence status ( a stamp on her passport ) right there ,so she can travel abraod with her reentry permit.
