my fiance and i want to apply for green cards through his father, how do we go about this, will we need to get married, or will he have to apply first and then i follow? i am 21 and he is 24 both uk citizens, his father is married to a us citizen? also how long will the process take and do we apply from the uk or usa

please can i have some advice asap

Is the sponsor a US Citizen yet? Just being married to a USC will not give him any ability to sponsor. More info available here.

Depends a lot on if his father has a green card or if he is a US citizen.

If his father has a green card , the father can file for him under F2B category(Unmarried sons and daughters over 21 of gc holders). But the wait is about 9
years. And your fiance must stay single till his interview 9 years later to get the visa.


IF his father is a US citizen
Father can file for him under F3 category if he is a citizen or after he becomes a US citizen. This category is for married children of US citizens, so both of you could get married to get visas under this petition but the wait again is about 7-8 years.

IF YOU GUYS ARE WILLING TO WAIT 7-8 YEARS, YOU COULD OPT FOR THE SECOND OPTION.
