  • Petitioner cannot be translator?

Background - mom came to the US on B2, I applied for her GC 3 months after she came to the US.

My mother had a GC interview today and I went with her, I am sponsoring her GC and am a USC. A few minutes into the interview, the interviewer said they need to reschedule the interview as the translator cannot be the petitioner. My mother doesnt speak English. Anyone have a similar experience? What happens now? Thanks.

i guess just wait until they send you a letter with a new appointment day, that's what they said, right?? the following is just my guessing only, they will make sure there is an immigration officer that speaks your language for the new appointment. how long is going to take to that happens?? god only knows.

(how common is your mother's language here in this country or in your area?)

      Hi

There aren't too many people that speak Telugu in the US leave alone North Carolina where the petition was filed. Has anyone else been in a similar situation?

They many not have translaters in all offices

I do not remember in all these years that you actually showed up to the interview and they cancelled due to a non availability of a translator.

I know for a fact that at the Consulate in India they are absolutely fine with the petitioner translating.

        Anyway just wait and see.
