Green Card Expired,anyway to recover it?

hi all,
we were issued a Family Based GreenCard back in 96,we came here,but left to india as my mother was very ill,later she passed away in india & so we came back in 99 ,myself,brother & father to renew it,applied for re-entry permit.and went back to india.Since then we never used the reentry permit ,or came to US,since our grand mother was sick ,and had to be taken care of,and we were busy studying our medicine&engineering programs.THe GC expired in 2006,now we want to do higher studies-Masters & residency in US because i heard it is tough to get a visa for doctors.So is it possible to revive the GC.welcome any knowledge/suggestions regarding it.

No. You lost it not because it expired but beacuase you did not reside permanently in the US as per the GC conditions.

You already lost your green card. You need to get the student visa to come down here.
