Married an illegal with less than a year in U.S

I'm an US citizen who married an illegal. But she got to the US less than a year ago (July 23, 2007). Do that makes any difference in the process of getting a green card?
Everywhere I read the penalty of 3 or 10 years is for somebody who has been "more than a year illegaly in the US" what do that mean?

She came from Honduras illegaly on July 2007. Married on May 2008.

She can not obtain a Green Card because she entered illegally. You two need to consult a competent immigration attorney. This case will not be easy at all.
