  • DS230 part 2 Q 33a/b: new SSN card, consent to disclousure

    Hi,

My parents already have SSN. If they don't need new cards, should they answer N to to DS230, part 2, question 33a and 33b? Would answering N cause any inconvenience?

33a: Do you want the Social Security Administration to assign you an SSN (and issue a card) or issue you a new card (if you have an SSN)?

33b: CONSENT TO DISCLOSURE: I authorize disclosure of
information from this form to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the Social Security Administration (SSA), such other U.S. Government agencies as may be required for the purpose of assigning me an SSN and issuing me a Social Security card, and I authorize the SSA to share my SSN with the INS.

    Thank you so much!

just fill out your current SSN, and they will update their record to your new immigration status. I believe that you will also receive your new SSN card regardless because whenever social security office update any information they mail out a new card.
