  • What does certified documents mean?

    Hi,
I am sponsoring Green card process for my parents. USCIS has sent a letter requesting for original or certified copies of douments to be posted to them. Any idea who can certify the documents in india? Is this the same as getting it notarized.

    Appreciate any replies.
    Thanks,
    Gayathri

    Hai

A copy of an original document eg birth certificate, certified by a solicitor as being a 'true copy'. Best to take the original to the solicitor and let them photocopy it before certifying it as he doesn't have to compare the two if you make the copy.

Any transcript, certificate, diploma, or test result you send to us must be an original document or a certified copy. Your university will certify copies of documents by stamping them with the university stamp. If your university cannot do this, you must get the copies endorsed by a public notary or a lawyer who has seen the original documents. Do not write on any of your documents yourself. If you do, we will not accept them.
