I am a U.S. Citizen applying for my wife who is here with me. She is from Brazil and had a previous marriage there which she divorced from years ago. The problem is that she is stuck here in U.S. and she cannot get a copy of the divorce decree without being present at the courthouse with her ex husband (basically both parties must be appear to obtain a copy of the divorce paper signed by the judge). Crazy rule!
Does anyone know of a suitable alternative? i.e a signed affidavit from her ex husband or a witness to the divorce or possibly a letter from a clerk of the court stating that a divorce decree does exist but that according to the rules they are unable to release a copy of it.
Thanks in advance!
