Hi,
My stepfather was asked to live in the USA because of public interest so we, the whole family, moved here last Christmas with the tourist visa (we are from Spain) and in March, right before the tourist visa expired we started the process to get a GC (we received a letter from Homeland Security saying that our GC is in process). Is there any way to travel out of the country without breaking the process of getting the GC? I've been told that I can't travel out of USA until I have the GC. Is that right? What happens if I do travel out of the country?

Is he a diplomat? Public interest and you automatically get a letter from DHS regarding your GC?

He is not a diplomat but he works in politics.
We came in with tourist visa in December and in March we received a letter from DHS saying that we are legal and in process to get the GC.
In December, when we came in I was 20 but in January I turned 21 so in March, when the GC process started I was already 21. If I leave now before getting the GC, would this affect the process of my family?

Seems to me that it may be outside the forum's knowledge about what you are talking about. An attorney is the best person for you.

You leaving will not impact the GC of your family.
