My husband and I were thinking of sponsoring a family of 4 from Honduras. I was wanting to ask a few questions. How long is the sponsor required to help support them, and what exactly would we be financially responsible for? The husband, not a citizen but is currently in the US legally and working, but still needs the help of a sponsor for the rest of his family, wife and three children. I really would like to help them, if possible. I just am hesitant it seems like a really big financial deal. Are they required to live with me? Thank you for any advise you can give….

When you say you want to sponsor them, what are you sponsoring them for? For tourist visa? For greencard?

That is a good question. I guess I need education about the process. My understanding is we would be sponsoring them to come to the US, to live and become US citizen. I believe this is their intention. Our friend is here with a greencard, he wants to become a US citizen, I guess he is working on this. In the meantime he states in order for his family to come they need sponsoring.

Myself, my husband, and a friend of ours are wanting to go in together and help sponsor them. However none of us understand anything about the process, the cost, or anything.
When you say tourist visa or greencard, what is the difference? Sorry for so many questions, and I thank you for your help.

You said they would like to come to the US and become US citizen. It is not that straightforward. There are numerous steps involved and it will take many years for that.
