  • I-130 / I-485 and I-765

We filed the I-130 and I-485 together. We got both receipt notices (I-797C)yesterday. I now understand that I should / could have filed the I-765 Employment Authorization Card. Is that easy to do? Or does it create a mess because I should have filed all three simultaneously?

Anybody in the same boat or experienced the same thing? Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

I did file I-765 with I-485. But i don't see any problem filling for I-765 after I-485. It is free to file since you filled for I-485. Just attach a copy of receipt notice that you received for your I-130 & I-485.

    all the best

      Thank you.

What is an A number? Is it printed on the I-485 receipt notice?

I don't know if you had any work authorization before. If you were on F-1 visa and had applied for OPT (work authorization). then you will have A# on your OPT Card and attach a copy of the card with I-765.

        Otherwise just write "N/A".

On the question that reads "have you ever applied for employment authorizationfrom USCIS?", if I was on a L-1 and then a H1-B, I should write "yes" and just include the approval notice for that visa together with the approval notice for the I-485, right??

Yes, just attach the copy of approval notice of your h1-B.
