Biometrics Appointment

Can anybody tell me what this actually involves?
I am guessing it is more than finger-printing and iris scanning, right?
And, I am also guessing that I (the non-USC) can go alone without my wife (USC/petitioner)?

I just had a Biometrics appointment last week and I have another one tomorrow morning. This is probably one of the simple tasks that you can do with the USCIS. The officer stands you up next to a machine (looks like a big copy machine with a computer screen) and scans you finger prints into the machine. They scan each finger about 3 times and then they take a head shot (picture) of you but all in all it is extremely painless. From start to finish it takes 10 minutes. No need to get dressed up or worry...if they were all this easy....
