IR1 Visa Granted

My hubby went for his interview on 01/14/2009 and he was asked to return on 01/21/2009 to collect his passport and documents. He went back yesterday and thankfully his visa was granted

I have some questions however: How do we proceed in obtaining his green card? He has a six months visa stamped in his passport to allow him to come in and out before he receives his GC. How long does that take? How can we get him SSN and work permit before his GC arrives?

I'm so excited right now it's unbelievable! It has been a long process and finally there seems to be light at the end of the tunnel!

It is wonderful for one to have his pasport stamp to come to us. i think i have the same case with your husband though i came into us on june 8,2008. you dont have any problem to get his ss card all he need to do is to take the stamp passport to any social security office very close to you and apply for one within two weeks they will mail it to your address.no work permit ok. for his green card i think within 3weeks he will get it provided his passport is stamp at the port of entry.within one month he will get his wellcome notice.

Thank you Amazing Grace. He'll have to receive the green card first to start searching for employment though right? I guess we'll just have to wait until he gets here.
