  • Have questions about marrying a F1 holder

    Hey guys,
I am planning on marrying my fiance who is on F1 visa right now. I am a resident of North Carolina, but my parents live in NY and she is currently living with them. So I was planning on getting my registered marriage at a courthouse in NY and then file all the papers from NC. Would that be OK or should we do our courthouse marriage in NC.

Also I looked over the paperwork, and it looks pretty simple. Would you recommend getting a lawyer or should I just do the whole thing on my own.

Also how long does it take to get the interview/green card. We are planning on going to India in December for our Reception with her Family and it would be nice if the process was complete. One lawyer suggested that it takes about 6-8 months to get everything done and we don't need to apply for advance parole.

Why you are not living with your wife?

Be careful, it might seem to USCIS that your marriage is not true. Cause you are living so far from each other.

I'm also married to a US Citizen, and I'm doing my papers by myself. So far I've got my work permit and my Social, It has been very fast and my interview is Thursday (wish me luck )...Therefore, it goes pretty fast, if the papers are all sharp!

I also live in NC. Good luck on your process!!

Thanks for a reply. I'll see if we can get married at the NC courthouse, though I think it might be a fair reason that we got married in NY was because my parents are her family is living there..

let us know how your interview goes...good luck...

      When did you apply??
