  • Birth Certificate in Telugu - No name!

    Hi,

We are filing for family based GC. I have two issues:

    1. My birth certificate is written in telugu - Can anyone translate it or should it be an authorized person only who can translate it?
    2. My name is not present in my birth certificate - My parents had given an affidavit stating that my name is missing and that the birth certificate is in telugu.

    Now, I have two queries:
Would it be valid, if I submit the original birth certificate, the translated birth certificate and my parent’s affidavit?
Do I need to get the translated birth certificate notarized?

    Please let me know.

      Per the I485 instructions:

Translations. Any document containing foreign language submitted to USCIS shall be accompanied by a full English language translation which the translator has certified as complete and accurate, and by the translator's certification that he or she is competent to translate from the foreign language into English.

You can always get a copy of your BC from the Birth and Death Dept, if your entry exists in their records. If not then you will have to meet the provisions of the secondary evidence found in Title 8, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), 103.2(b)(2).

      Good luck!
