I am a US born citizen from NJ, married to a Canadian citizen from Toronto. This is the timeline so far:
1. Feb. 08 - We filled out forms I-130 and I-129 after each other.
2. Nov. 08 - We received a letter for both petitions saying they were both approved and have been sent off to the NVC (for the I-130) and US Consulate in Montreal (for the K3 visa).
3. Mar. 09 - Interview date for K3 Visa. We had also gotten a checklist of all the things we need to bring with us. We double triple checked everything. I picked up my wife from Toronto and went to Montreal and we got denied. The reason they gave us was because I did not have proof of health insurance covereage for her. The first issue with that is, she doesn't even live in the US so she wouldn't need it. The second issue is, why wasn't it on the checklist?? I could have added her to my health insurance and brought the appropriate proof. So we left and I got the appropriate proof from my insurance company and mailed it out to them.
4. Apr. 09 - Called NVC in NH to follow up on GC status only to find out they want form DS-230 and and Affidavit of Support. We were never told to mail those in!! So we wasted several months just waiting for no reason. So we immediately mailed those in.
5. May 09 - Requested to mail in my wife's passport to Montreal to finish processing the case for K3.
Now here we are waiting yet again. I am so frustrated with this it's unbelievable. I'm reading stories here of people applying after us and getting their GC already, while living in the US. Now to make things more complicated my wife is pregnant and is expecting in August. My insurance is only going to cover 80% of the cost. She has no SSN nor can she get one with a K3, so I can't get any federal or state aid. Nor can I support her easily while she waits in Canada. I'm so sick of our government right now.
I guess I just needed to vent.
