I have just filed the papers on my husband from the Dominican Republic and am waiting on a reciept for the I-130. I was living with him in his country but was told I needed to come back to the U.S. to file all paperwork. I have just read about the processing of the papers done from outside of the U.S. that can take apprx. 4 months. I am planning to go back and wait with him there a.s.a.p. Is there any possible way to try and go through that process although I've already started it through the Chicago lockbox? Anyway to transfer to a Direct Consular?
Also I have been trying to find out if I should file the K-3 after I recieve my reciept from U.S.C.I.S. Is there anyone that can say if it is worth it- pros and cons? I have so far been told that it can shorten the time by only a couple of months but no less than 6 mo.s total. Yet I have been told that it's possible for the entire I-130 to go through in 6 months incl. the interview and overall process. So spending the extra $1010 dollars because of the K-3 wouldn't even be worth it. Then I am also hearing that it could be 1 to 1.5 years for the I-130 to go through. I am not getting anything concrete, which is understandable because all situations are varied. Yet if there is someone that can give me insight on my case and any pointers I would deeply appreciate it. Do things go faster if you have a lawyer? Or are they just doing what you could do? Thanks so much for anyone who can spare a minute to help.
