There is a lot of home work to be done by you future immigrants. Use this time positively and prepare yourself for a whole life changing experience. Like I said earlier, my invitation is extended to all of you, ask me anything you feel like and I will answer based on the best of my knowledge and my personal experience.
Good Luck!

To all of you who are waiting to come to US, piece of advise:
Learn to drive a CAR!
If you are a female, especially YOU!
If your child is around the age of 15 or more, MUST learn to drive!
If you are planning to come to California, transport system really SUCKs!!!!!
If travel between point A to point B takes 30 minutes by a car, it will take you at least couple of hours with more than two buses. Taxi's are extremely expensive. Driving schools are extremely expensive. You can buy a decent used car for around $1000.00, make sure its an honda or a toyota.
If you prepare yourself now, it will save you a lot of time and agony!!!!!!!!

You have to show that you were physically present in the US for at least 913 days of the 1825 days prior to filing for naturalization. You must also show that you had no single absence greater than one full year during the past five years.

Residence Requirement for US Citizenship

I'm sorry to jump into the discussion, but this is an important topic for everyone here (eventually they all will apply for the citizenship). Here are couple of points everyone need to keep in mind:
1) You can apply for US citizenship after 5 years as greencard holder. However, if you spend 6 months or more continusouly (NOT one year) outside America, then the 5 years time gets extended to make up such time. Refer to Guide to Citizenship on uscis website (Form N-400).
So, dont leave America for 6 months or more, if you want citizenship asap.
2) As a greencard holder, you do NOT need "Re-Entry Permission". But if you're leaving the country for over 365 days, then you must get (in advance, prior to leaving) permission to extend the timing of your stay outside USA. As a greencard holder, you cannot be physically out of America for more than 364 days.
Practially, you will not have any trouble in getting the extension first time, because they know you have unfinished stuff to take care of. But if you make it a trend and come to USA only for a month or two and then leave for 9-10 months, Immigration can cancel your greencard. It actually happened with someone I know.

Datu thanks for researching that for me. I really appreciate it.
Redquash, thanks so much for that info. I'm sure all of us in this thread would want to know these details because we never know when we might be in this situation. It's good to have the knowledge in advance than be caught in a mess."TO GOD BE THE GLORY"

In USA
Hello all,
Thank u all for ur best wishes. Do appreciate everything. After all this is a journey that we met and helped each other out at some point.
We are finally in New York. The flight was long. In NY,the lines at immigration and customs was long. It took about 2 hours to get through it. Finger-printing was done too. Make sure u have change for the trolleys. Take a look at the forms to be filled out on the Immihelp site-customs forms etc.
Write down all the passport #'s, exp date, etc for all family members in a little book,so u dont have to take it out a million times while u try to fill out forms.
Overall, everything went well. The weather in NY is cool, and a little chilly in the night. Have to enroll kids in school on Monday. Will keep posting.
Wishing you all the very best.

Hi Twins ! I'm glad you finally landed in the US... safely. I'm amazed at how fast you were able to leave your country. Maybe you don't have to dispose of properties ? Just curious coz this is one of my problems when the time comes."TO GOD BE THE GLORY"
