I live in the Caribbean and my father is a US citizen living in New York. He is in the process of sponsoring my family and I to live with him there. I think he began the process in 2000 and now our names have been approved. However, he says that he needs a joint sponsor. So my questions are :
1. Why does he need a joint sponsor?
2. What financial qualifications does he need to support five members including my family and I?
3. If he cannot get a joint sponsor, what other options are available so that my family and I can get our Green cards?
4. Can I help sponsor myself with the assets I have here in my country? If so, would I have to sell my property and use the money to prove that I can be a joint sponsor, or do I only have to show proof of what I own?
5. If he gets the joint sponsor and sends the necessary documents to the Immigration Office, how long will that process take before we can have the privelege of living in the USA?
