  • Sponsoring Sister and her family

    Hi,
I would like to sponsor my sister and her family for immigrant visa. I am u.s. citizen.
I am getting ready to file for I-130 for her.
    My question is:
I heard that if the sibling is here in U.S. when I-130 is applied/approved then they can get Adjustment of status within a year. I am not able to confirm that anywhere. IS this true? Or does it still take 7-10years?
If it is true, then I should have them apply for visit visa and then proceed with I-130 once they get here.

    Thanks

Nope! Thats not happening, they've got to wait for several years before they get their visa thingy done. They've to wait for visa number to be available (Since they are not in IR category). Does not make a difference if they are in US or not.
P.S - Saying this from experience! Filed for my brother and sister (Both still under 21) In August 2006, just got their approvals couple of weeks ago. NVC says they gota wait till visa number is available. Dont waste your energy, take it easy...
