  • Getting papers signed before ceremony - IR

    Hi,

I got engaged to a USC this September and we were planning to get married in September 2010. However, due to some logistical issues we are thinking to do a civil marriage in a month (January 2010) or so and do the actual ceremony (with my and her family present) as planned in Sept 2010.

One of the reasons we want to do civil marriage early is to get the immigration/GC process going and hopefully obtain the I-131 approved so I can travel for honeymoon in Sept.

We plan to visit her parents and do civil in their hometown, we might have a dinner at a fancy place. Nothing big. So we wont have the usual wedding picture but have been living together for past 3.5 years and think that should be able to provide other pics and docs. to show bona fide wedding.

Would I have a problem (in interview or anything GC related) if decide to do this?
