I have a situation. I got married to an american citizen in india in april and then came to canada on a student visa in may. Because the marriage had to be registered under the special marriage act in india which needs you to give a 30 day notice period, we couldnt get it registered in india. Therefore we got married again here in Canada (a civil marriage) imidiately after coming here in may. Now when i am filing for US immigration, I am wary whether i should disclose our religious marriage in india to the authorities. I am not sure how they would really intrepret this.
If i do not tell them that we got married in india they might ask the reason as to why we did not go for a religious ceremony.
If i do tell the interviewer that we were got married in India and couldnt get it registered due to the 30 day notice period and other limitations of the special marriage act and the fact that I had to come to Canada to join my school, it might again create a doubt in the interviewers mind.
Please advise.
Thanks in advance
