Hi, My mother is going for immigrant visa interview in Chennai on Feb 11th 2010. Can you guys please help me with following?

    1. VFS: they say Ihave to bring all the original docs that I already sent to NVS as part of DS-230 application. What do I have to provide to these guys?
    2. As a Petitioner, should I be there with my mom? Even If I want, Can I be with my mother during interview?
    3. What are the other documents I have to bring from US (US Citizen)? Like my passport, Citizen certificate SSN, IRS Tax papers, Employment verification etc?
    4. The last question is: my last name and my mothers last have one letter miss spelled in the pass port. In my last name one of the char is spelled as E and in my mothers passport it is spelled as A. What kind of documents I have to provide as proof? Any help here?

    Thanks guys in advance.

    1. Not sure. Please ask this question to VFS and post it here for the benefit of everyone.
    2. No.
    3. N/A based on answer #2.
    4. Prepare an affidavit. The best thing is you prepare one and she prepares one. Sample at https://www.immihelp.com/sample-one-...s-immigration/

Most important, you must read everything at https://www.insubuy.com/new-immigrant-insurance/-plans/

Thanks. My mother is attending for immigrant visa on Feb 11th in Chennai. I was thinking that I should travel to Chennai so that I can go along with my mother into interview office. Based on your reply, I can not go with her and so, no use me travelling other than I can see them in Chennai.

If the applicant is over 65 years old and do not know any other language to speak other than TELUGU, I am not sure how she is going to handle alone?

              Hi,
I think this thread will help you. http://www.immihelp.com/forum/showthread.php?t=51522

              to answer your questions,
              1. one of a member posted same thing. Its a new and recent rule. you could carry a certified copy.
              2. you DONT have to be with your mom, "because" you are the petitioner. In fact you CANT be with your mom, as petitioner cannot be the translater. In rsmn case, they let her be the translater, probably because the officer knew the local language as well. It may not happen every single case.
But you can ask for an interpreter. I called the chennai consulate and requested for that service IN ADVANCE. and tell your mom to request for the interpreter when she sees the first officer.
              3. you could carry them. NVC strongly suggested me to send the most current tax papers. But in my mother's case they didn't wanted it, at the interview.
take family photos. thats what they considered for proving the relationship between parent and child. especially old photos, with all members in it. and any other documents that has your mother's name and your name on it.
              4. affidavits from your relatives. or old documents showing the same difference. my last name was a little different than my mother's last name. i had a passport in that name and I had couple of affidavits, so there weren't any problem.

I just spoke to US Consulate in Chennai and here is what they told me.

Q1. Can I accompany my mother into consulate
Ans: Only petitioner is allowed and not any one else. If I am the petitioner, I can enter, but you have to show your US passport at the entry.
Q2. Can I request for translator?
Ans: For Immigrant VISA, they automatically provide the translator. For non Immigrant Visa, you have to request.
Q3. VFS is asking about all the documents that I already provided to NVC.
Ans: If you have already provided requested documents to NVC, I just have to pay the Courier Fee.

                Thanks, Chinna
