What heppens to minor GC when parents decide to forefeit their GC

I have applied for my brother's GC. He and his family will get GCs this month. His son is 18 year old. My brother and his wife would like to return back home. His son (my newphew) will stay with us in US and study further.

The question is, what happens when my brother forefeit his GC? Is my nephew's GC will also automatically discontinued? OR My nephew's GC stays active so far as he stays in US?

Each person has to retain their own GC.

Son can still maintain GC even if parents don't.
