question about priority date

hi i have a very detailed question any help would be greatly appreciated. my aunt usc filed for another another aunt on 17th april 2001 reciept date was 20th april 2001, my aunt the benificiary is in the usa since then, today 02/08/2010 we called uscis and found out case was denied in 2006. my question we never recieved this notice, if we are to refile can we recapture that prioritydate, also, am i correct that she can adjust status here have ha a petition filed for her here before april 30th 2001. i look forward to any assistance, have a great day.

While I don't know for certain, I would say that you can not recapture that priority date. The previous petition has already been denied so to file again would be a new application with a new priority date.
