US citizenship for children under 18 years

I have a question.

My wife recently good her US Citizenship and I am a Green Card holder for over 5 years. My son is 12 years old and has Green Card as well.

I want to apply for his US passport based on my wife’s US Citizenship. Can I apply for his passport without applying for Certificate of Citizenship (N-600). Or is it a must to get the Certificate of citizenship for children below 18 years.

Is that her son as well? Were you married to her when he was born? Where did you both live when he was born? There are many questions that need to be answered first.
