  • Bombay Consulate - IV visa for parents

    Hello
I am sponsoring my parent's IV. they will go to bombay consulate for their interview very soon. Question is - how many months can they stay back in india once the IV visa is issued and sealed envelop is in their hands before they are required to travel to US as the FIRST time IV holders.

is there any expiry date on the IV issued at the consulate?
    Thanks

They must enter the US within 6 months of issance of immigrant visa. In other words, immigrant visa expires in 6 months of issuance.

      Parents Immigration Visa

I am planning to apply for my mother's immigration visa. She is in US till next 2 months and plans to go to India in May for few months. I have been told by a few friends that she needs to be here in US till she gets her greencard. is it true? or can she travel to India while her application is in process?

        That is not true.

After I-130 (Immigration petition for relative) is approved, the person can either do Adjustment of Status if in the US or get Immigrant visa outside the US.

Please look at http://www.immihelp.com/green-card-process/ for high level idea of the green card process.

          stuck! birth certificate

well, got stuck at the birth certificate issue.

we do not have mothers birth certificate - none whatsoever. because she was born in a small village in the state of gujarat and there was no registration of birth.

now, i have only school leaving certificate and that too in Gujarati. that certi
states date of birth along with full names of parents of my mother.

question to you all is -
will translated version of that school leaving certificate work in lieu of certificate of birth?

i am planning to submit 2 affidavits from relatives who are much elder to my mother. these will state all required details to substantiate the date of birth claim.
