I applied to sponsor my wife, for permanent residency, who is living in Canada. I live in Utah. My application (with spouse app) was received in Phoenix, on March 22, 2019. I receives a receipt for 'funds paid', but other than that I've heard nothing. How long does it take? I check my mailbox every day, with 'hope'.

You can check the status of your case on the uscis website. Just put in the receipt number in the "case status" section.
generally it takes maybe 4 to 6 months to get an update.
on the uscis website it also has the processing times for where you filed, so you can have a time frame in mind.
