  • I-864 total income - worked overseas

Hi, I am a U.S. citizen, applying for a green card for my husband. I am filling out the affidavit of support, and am stuck on part 6, question 24a. I have lived in Ireland for the last few years, and have only Irish income, no U.S. income. Therefore, on on my 1040, line 22, my total income is zero, and on line 37 my adjusted gross income is zero. I have researched this a lot and get conflicting answers, some people say to follow the exact instructions on the form, which is to fill in the EXACT number on your 1040, so zero income. Others say that it looks bad to have zero income, so I should put my Irish earned income there instead to show I can earn money, which is listed on the 1040, but only on line 7 as my wages, not as total income. Any advice on that? Also, we are using a joint sponsor, so I'm not technically using my income to qualify anyways, even though I have to fill in my income information.

    Thanks for any advice!
