I applied for a greencard through my father in my mid-twenties. At the time, i was lost in what i wanted to do with my life and I had so many friends over in the USA all i wanted was to leave and start a fresh. I had always loved America and daydreamed about moving over all the time.
It's 7 years later, i'm now early thirties.. i have a respectable job, a boyfriend and savings. As the years stretched on i carried on with my life and i had almost convinced myself it was never going to happen, and if it did it would be so far in the future, anything could have changed.
I now have a notification informing me my visa is being processed. It gives me the option to pay the fees, submit documents and beging the process leading to interview.
I'd be so grateful if anyone could answer my questions:
- how long do i have to take the first step?
- how long will it be between completing the first step (and assuming i pass the interview and all is well) and having to leave to go to the USA?
This has now become a huge, admittedly life changing decision for me and of course millions of people on the same position. People who may not be in the same place they were 7 years previously.. I just really want to know how long i get to think about this and weigh up starting a new life.
