After getting the IR5 stamp at the port of entry, how many days would it take to get the green card through post?

Hi, can I ask you a question?
When mother went for immigrant visa, she got a big envelop and her passport with immigrant visa with 6 months validity. When you go to immigration officer in port of entry (US), what do they ask? Just passport, envelop (given by US consulate in india with VISA) and immigration form you fill in the flight? Is there any thing they ask you. My mother gave her medical reports to US consulate in India. I am not sure if the envelop includes all those medical reports also. please help me.
