Green card through marriage with Permanent Resident

I'd like to know if a Permanent Resident can sponsor their spouse's green card and how long that process takes, and other conditions and privileges associated with such sponsorship:

1) How long for the spouse of the Permanent Resident to also obtain a Green card?

2) Will the location of the marriage affect the above process?

3) Can the spouse that's being sponsored visit the U.S. and work legally, based on some temporary work authorization?

Please let me know if I am missing anything else.
