  • GC for Mother and Stepfather

My mother remarried after death of my natural father when I was 9 and has been marrierd to my stepfather for about 20 years.I want to file for GB for both my mother and my stepfather. Can I file the I-130 as parents? What additional documents will I need to provide?

Check details for step father at https://www.immihelp.com/family-base...ationship.html

    Look under stepparent.

Based on your facts, you can file for your stepfather. Your mother and stepfather is two separate petition.

      Additional document you will need:

      Mother:
      1. Certified Death Certificate of your natural father (this is to prove the first marriage legally ended)
      2. Certified Marriage Certificate showing your mother and stepfather married before your 18th birthday. (this is to prove she is married to your stepfather)
      3. Your certified birth certificate (this is to prove she is your natural mother)

      Stepfather:
      1. Any Death or divorce decree from his previous marriage if any. (this is to show his previous marriage legally ended before marrying your mother)
      1. Certified Marriage Certificate showing your mother and stepfather married before your 18th birthday. (this is to prove he is married to your mother)
      2. Any adoption decree (if he legally adopted you) if any.
      3. Any evidence that he lived with you and your mother (such as lease, bank account statement with both your stepfathers name and your mother's name before you turned 18)
      4. Any evidence that he participated in your well being and was part of your life, such as a photo of you and your stepfather during family vacation, bithday party or graduation before you turned 18.
      5. Any continuing parental interest from your stepfather such as recent birthday card from him, letters from him with actual postal envelope with post mark.
