My mom, who is a permanent resident, filed a petition for me about five years ago. The priority date is 2005 for unmarried son over 21.
Now if my mom becomes a citizen, how will this affect my petition? Will she have to make a new petition? Can I switch my current petition to reflect that my mom is a citizen now so that I can get my visa sooner?
I've been told that once my mom becomes a citizen, my current petition will no longer be valid and I'll have to go through the process from scratch....which means my priority date becomes 2010, assuming she applies this year.
I'm lost.
