  • DS-260 PETITIONER'S MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE Required

I am an American citizen residing in US and currently in the process of filing for Green Cards for my parents in India. I-130 approved and in process of filing the forms online (DS-260). Having filled up and submitted the DS-260, the next step is to upload the supporting documents for the DS-260.

Now, the supporting document section asks for "PETITIONER'S MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE" and is required. But i am single and not married. Any idea why it is asking me this ? What do i need to do ?

If you filed for the correct category, you shouldn't be forced to upload a document for marriage. Are you sure there's no "does not apply" option available? secondly, what about your parents' marriage certificate.. have they asked for that here or will they ask for it during the interview at the consulate?

Good luck. I learned the hard way, I hope you don't have to. Immigration is interesting. Not considered as legal advice.

Thanks for the reply PKumar, but there is no "does not apply" option. Also the DS-260 did not ask for the petitioners marital status so i am not sure why i am being asked to do that.

I hope you realize that the DS-260 is filled out by the applicant (i.e. your parents information) not you, the petitioner. In other words, the DS-260 is your parents' application for a visa / interview. You've already done your application with the I-130. Just make sure you don't submit the wrong information, vogonjeltz.

Yes PKumar, as you have correctly put it is filled up by my parents. I was alluding to the fact that i was merely assisting them fill up the form and i did not see any information on the DS-260 that would have asked for the Petitioner's ( i.e. me ) related information that would have prompted them to ask for a "Petitioners Marriage Certificate".
