  • Appolo Hospital : Dr. Rama Narasimhan - Out of line & Un professional

This is absolutely a appointment for Hell experience for my mother before here Medical consultation. I am writing this experience first here so that people should be beware.

My Mothers GC Interview is scheduled and as all of us know the Medical is required, so she called and was scheduled to meet Dr. Rama.

It seems as soon as she enter the room she said "Do you have any records of vaccination" to which my sister responded -- sorry my mother is 68 years old and we do not have any records, the only proof is the marks on her hand.

From there on it began to spiral down hill..

Dr. Rama: Do you think the consulate will let us give a clean chit for someone like you with no records ?
My mother : Please let us know what innoculations are required and we will take them.

Dr. Rama : You Do not have any medical records, do you even have a doctor.
My sister : We have a family Dr who has seeing my mother for the last 40 years.

Dr. Rama : So how is that you have no records?
My sister : Please let me know what letter or clarification you need from my doctor and I will get them for you.

Dr. Rama : Looks like you may have a case of Hernia, have you been operated before
My mother : I have never been operated other than for a cateract.

Dr. Rama: So you decided that it was not necessary to operate..
My sister : No we take advice from our doctor we do not make such un professional decisions.

Dr. Rama: I must see the medical records of operation / suggestion.
My sister: We have no such records so I cannot manufacture information that does not exist.

Dr. Rama: Do you know how much an Xray in the US costs about 450 US$, can you son afford that? or are you going to be public charge.
My sister: My brother has more than the affordibility, he would never sponsor her if he did not have the mean to provide for her.

Dr. Rama: Do you have any criminal record
My sister: No we never have such a record, also why do you ask? we have police clearence & we will submit that to the consulate... is this your jurisdiction?

Dr. Rama: Everybody in India has Land dispute and court cases.
    My sister: We have none.

Dr. Rama: Do you know the power I have... I just spoke to the consulate. Do you know I can simply make a call and cancel her Green card application !
My mother: See Dr. if there is any medical procedure that is required please let us know, if this a requirment to have this done before the Interview can we get it scheduled and completed.

Dr. Rama: No that is not necessary for the interview, however I have an excellent practise, please make a appointment and I can take care of all these conditions I have discussed.
My sister: Does the consulate say i cannot attend the interview with such condition.

Dr. rama: No this does not stop you from attending the interview. pay the fees downstains and get the innoculations and collect the report tomorrow.

My sister is an Attorney and she was furious however she kept her cool as she did not want to effect the outcome of the medical check up. My mother was very upset and crying to me on the phone.

What a B^&CH this Rama, she is out of line, up professional and a disgrace to the medical profession as well as the US values and quality of life.

I am drafing detailed letter to Appollo management, board of directors as well as her chief. I also am going to write to the US department of state as well as US consulate in chennai as soon as my mothers interview is done.

I personally want to meet this BIAt$H and give her an earful. I will also pose this experience in as many immigration websites so that people avoid such low life bottom feeders.

All this transpired without her once touching my mother or even checking her with a stethescope / reading her blood report.

I myself had a horrible experience with Apollo Hospital, Ahmedabad.

I went there for general physical check up during my visit to India in December 2008. I went that not because I don't have health insurance in the U.S., not because my general check up is not covered here, not because I can't afford general check up in the U.S.

I went there first time in 2005 simply thinking that generally the doctors in India have very good practical experience and I learned that they do much more detailed check up than it is done in the U.S., as part of general check up. I had good experience at that time. Therefore, I went there again in December 2008. However, by then, they had started doing the medical exam for the greencard applicants and they are so busy with that they simply don't care about the people who visit them voluntarily. The lines are much bigger, the same doctors have now become rude and don't care anymore as they get a lot of automatic business anyway.

Based on the treadmill test, they asked me to do some extra heart test for both of us (myself and spouse). (What is the possibility that the same test is required for both of us? Just money making scam.) I asked my brother-in-law who is a heart specialist in a different small town and he said it is not required at all. However, I decided to go for it anyway, just in case. The test was similar to CT scan type but a little different (exact details don't matter).

When I was injected the dye for the exam, the nurse Hema injected the needle in a wrong place, started the procedure and ran away to do something else. When the dye was injected, I had so much pain all of sudden that I couldn't tolerate. When I saw my palm, it had a big baloon of around a golf ball size or even bigger. It seems as the needle was inappropriately injected, the die didn't go in the vein. I shouted the loudest I could. The nurse came back and carelessly said that she is so much overloaded with work that she has to attend multiple places at once and can't be expected to anything properly. Anyway, the test was done finally and everything turned out to be normal.

Now, my wife's story. The nurse could not find my wife's vein properly and injected it in wrong places several times. She had big marks all over hand in a next day or so. Finally, they injected the needle, gave her IV (don't know why) and let her sleep in the small place that looked like some part of the hallway for several hours. They would not start her procedure. They would continue to take other patients one after another. It was more than 3 hours. Meanwhile, it was a big hassle for her to go to the restroom etc. I asked the Dr. Sandeep who was doing this scanning about the delay. Instead of replying properly, he gave the reply in such bad words that I can't write here. He essentially said that you guys get the appointment in the U.S. after 3 months, and over there, you just bend your **** and stand there and say nothing. And you are complaining about 3 hours delay here. I told him that I am not here because I don't get an appointment in the U.S., not because I can't afford it in the U.S. and not because I don't have insurance in the U.S. I came here solely because I believed Apollo is supposed to be highly regarded hospital. To all that, he didn't care and continued his attitude.

Does he know the other side of the coin about the healthcare in the U.S.? Patients could easily sue the doctors/hospitals for malpractice for millions of dollars?

Finally, when I was walking out of his room, he slammed the door so hard that two of my fingers got crushed.

I have pictures of my crushed fingers and big marks on my wife's hand to prove all these. (The baloon on my hand had to be taken care of right away, and therefore don't have picutres of that.)

I immediately went upstairs and complained to the medical director there who assured me that he would do something about it. Few days passed and nothing happened.

After that, I complained to their CEO Dr. Praful Pawar. He called me back assuring me that he would definitely look into it. However, I didn't hear back from him after that.

I met my uncle and aunt a few days later who said that they also had a bad experience with Apollo hospital who had also gone there very recently for general check up there because they heard about it from me about it during my last visit to India. They are Indian residents. They had suspected that some of the lab results were highly inaccurate. Therefore, they got their blood test done at two other labs after that and the results of both of those labs were consistent, but highly inconsistent with Apollo results. And looking at their health, height, weight, I have all the reasons to believe that other labs results were right.

Medicine in India is a business, its a cat an mouse game where most Dr's are trying to ascertain your affordability so that they can milk you.

My Mother and sister have medical insurance in Coimbatore from a local hospital. Do you know that they now get treated quickly and released because of the annual issurance, for others who don't... its a milking game.

The kind of questioning is totally out of line of a person who is 68 years old. Who is this doctor... It is my mission to see that such BITCHE$ in place...they paint such bad picture of what America. If possible I like to meet the chief at Apollo to give him my 2c for employing and keeps such people on the payroll.

We are not low life's or illegals, we follow due process, pay our taxes and only claim what is rightfully ours. I purchase full medical coverage for my mother... how dare this dr, speak of public charge.

I am SIMPLY FURIOUS... I want people who go to APOLLO to AVOID HER. explictly say I do not want to consult her.

        Xkuger,

The panel physicians for immigrant visa medical exam are not supposed to be concerned about any health issues than what they are minimally required to test for as per the U.S. immigration law. This is explained in 'Not a comprehensive examination' section at https:///medical-examination-details...mmigrant-visa/

I think he is just trying to run his private practice on side (nothing wrong with that itself) and is using this candidates as the potential marketing platform, which is definitely wrong.

They are not supposed to be questioning about affidavit of support etc. All that is the job of U.S. consulate and that is what they check at the time of interview. You need to complain to the U.S. consulate (immigrant visa section) about this. https://www.immihelp.com/us-immigrat...tes-india.html Send them a short email that has just enough details to the convey your point. You can provide them much more detailed explanation, if they ask about it later. I hope that they would take such complaints seriously and do something about it.

Firstly it is a SHE and I do not think it can be excused. It is plain and simple un professional and out of line. I do not accept that she was trying to get business on the side..... there is no excude to being un professional.

How would you like it if you walk into an airline counter to purchase an air ticket and the atendent begins to say "Why are you fying", "Are you planning to hijack"... "Can you afford this ticket", " Who paid for this". It is a similar such situation.

This is simply un acceptable.... if you want to market you services be olite and say "hey I have a private practise and consult me"...

I am writing a brief letter to Appollo management & well as the consulate, I have faith that someone will take notice.

They are completely out of line with their questioning and beyond being simply unprofessional. I totally understand you being POed. I would raise he** if I were you. You should certainly follow this through and make sure this behavior dosent go unchecked.

              Don't let this go easily

              Hi All,

I will not let this go this easily. File a complaint with USCIS, NVC, and US Consulate and of course with US Human Rights Commission too, so that they will make sure that US Consulate will remove this doctor or hospital from the list. I cannot tolerate this.

What I reviewed from the post and think for each line.

Dr. Rama: Do you think the consulate will let us give a clean chit for someone like you with no records?
Why she bothers about consulate decision, Do your damn job and give us the result.

              --------------------------------------------------------------
Dr. Rama: Do you know how much an X-ray in the US costs about 450 US$, can you son afford that? Or are you going to be public charge.
She thinks that without knowing all this you filled for your mother immigration and on earth she is the smartest.

              -----------------------------------------------------------------
Dr. Rama: Everybody in India has Land dispute and court cases.
You should have asked her if she has any, if not, then why not

              ------------------------------------------------------------------
Dr. Rama: Do you know the power I have... I just spoke to the consulate. Do you know I can simply make a call and cancel her Green card application !
Does she know that if she writes a wrong remark, we can cancel her license and press charges

              ----------------------------------------------------------------------
Dr. Rama: No that is not necessary for the interview, however I have an excellent practice, please make a appointment and I can take care of all these conditions I have discussed.
What type of practice, threatening people and asking for consultation, if I was you, I would have immediately taken my papers and should have gone to another doctor.

              ----------------------------------------------------------------------
Can you send the hospital name, address and the doctor’s full name. Also, Date and time this happened.I am going to meet my local senator and submit an official complain.

If possible, post the scanned copy of official complaint letter you submit. That will help more.

                sorry to hear that.
my blood boils when this happens...

fist off all..he don't make decisions whether she can or she cannot go, he's job is to do just what he was told/asked to do.

but what can we do..!!! i Guess that's why we ended up here.

last time i almost punch a bus condector on face...same thing with RMV.
because we got used to their abuse.

Now that my mother has recieved the Green card and is here in the US. I am drafting letter about this doctor to the US consulate as well as as NVC & Apollo hospital.

I am not going to have this go un noticed... such behaviour should be nipped in the bud.
