  • Need Help completing I-944 Form

    Hi,

I have couple of questions on filing I-944. i am applying green card for my parents. Here are the questions i have.

    1. Part2 --> Family status ( Your Household) . Did you include yourself as a part of Household.
    2. Part3 --> 1. if you have included your self in Part2. I assume you have include yourself in this section and declare Total-Income. ?
    2. For your parents did you select Not required to File tax return ? What reason did you provide for the Explanation for Not FIling.
    3. Does any of your parents have Retirement Income outside USA ? If yes Which section did you provide that info.
    4. Part 3--> Section 9 --> If you declared any Assets ? what kind of documentation was provided ?
    5. Part 3--> Section 11 --> If you selected "NO" . Were you able to get report or letter from credit agencies that tells the parents doesn't have credit score.
    6. Part4 --> Section3 --> Education --> If your parents have Degree Certificates , Do you have get Education evaluation for Equivalency to US degree ?

    Thanks in Advance.

    1. Yes, you include 1. A is self (the person who's applying for green card). B. family member such as wife, children, etc.

    2. Yes you include (the person who's applying for green card) and their family members and each one's total W2s

    2. There are many reasons: Not being a U.S. resident is one of them.

    3. I don't know

    4. Each asset's evidence must include 3 things:
    • 1. Description of the asset
    • 2. Proof of ownership
    • 3. Net cash value of the asset
Depends on the type of the assets, for example:
    • Real estate: recent appraisal or mortgage information
    • Cash: 12 months of bank statements or something smilier (a statement with ending balance)
    • Retirement accounts: 12 months of statements
    5. I don't know.
    6. No you don't have to get equivalency to a US degree.

for # 3 about parents retirement income, you would write that in question 6a in part 3
for # 5 about credit report, you have to show proof that there's no record found (as per USCIS policy manual). Some people write statements to say there's no "social security number and thus no credit report". Other people tried to show screenshots of the website not accepting your log in without a SSN. No one really knows about this because this is a relatively new form and the USCIS hasn't provided much feedback for the I-944 in terms of what to put for some confusing questions.
for # 6 only go through the trouble of equivalent degrees if it helps them with future income. otherwise, skip it.
        --Good luck--
Good luck. I learned the hard way, I hope you don't have to. Immigration is interesting. Not considered as legal advice.
