Family Green Card - Mother - changing to AOS

I am an US citizen and sponsoring my mother. I applied for her GC and the timeline are as follows.


Applied on May 2008 for Consular processing in India
Paid Affidavit of Support (AOD) in June 2008
Submitted I-864 forms and supporting documents
Submitted DS-3032 and paid Immigrant Visa (IV) fee in Nov 2009
Sending the Packet 3 items now..

My mother is now here is USA legally for few months. Can I get the GC processed from here instead of in India? If so what is the process.

Also any drawbacks of doing it in USA?

Quick questions...
Why did it take so long for your mother's case?, I have heard that I-130 will get approved in couple of months, then it will be sent to India for consular processing. Since its Parent's GC, there is no waiting period for visa number (its unlimited category)...right?, so your mother's consular process should have been over in couple of months. Why did it take so long (as per your dates, its more than a year) ?

I dont know the answer for your case because I myself have applied for my Parents GC just now, they are in India. Im curious to know the processing timelines for India consular.
