  • Green Card Approval & COVID

    Hi everyone,

Just had my green card through marriage interview approved and was told that green card printing factories are closed. On the approval notice it states the card should be received within 90 days. Research online shows factories are not closed, just operating at lower capacity. Has anyone been through the process during COVID and can speak to how long it took to receive the card?

I was also wondering if anyone has adjusted their social security card to unrestricted? I have been working on an H1B, so the SSN is restricted. All the social security offices are closed so I can't go in person to apply and they want originals or certified copies of the Approval Notice, which I think it a terrible idea to send in the mail and I doubt I would get it back. Any ideas how to go about adjusting the social security card status?

    Thanks in advance.

The green card may take several months.
If you do not receive it in 90 days and need proof (for a job, or to urgently travel outside the country), you can call USCIS for an appointment to get an I-551 stamp. This is evidence of PR.
No need to change the SSN card for now. The actual greencard or I-551 stamp along with the existing SSN suffices for unrestricted work authorization.
