  • Help - Family based green card file time

    Hello All,

I am a US citizen and applied for a green card for my parents in 2019.

On 7th January, 2020, my mother was scheduled for a consulate interview but due to personal circumstances, she was unable to attend the interview. Upon inquiring at the Mumbai consulate, I was informed that her file will be kept open for a year (until January 2021) and she can appear for consulate interview in a year. However, due to COVID-19 and current US visa restriction, she was unable to appear for a consulate interview. One year is approaching this January (2021) and COVID cases are increasing in India. I am afraid that her file will be closed.

Please advise on how I should keep her file open so when circumstances improve, she can schedule a consulate interview for her immigration file.

    Thanks,
    Nandish Patel

The validity date of many such things received blanket extension. For example any paid visa fee (for non immigrant) has been extended until Dec 31, 2021. I am 95% sure, the validity date would have been extended for immigrant visa too.

For the remaining 5% certainity , contact one or more of the below.

    1. NVC (in the US). Normally has gazillion hours of wait time.
    2. [email protected]

      Thank you so much Parks.

I married to US citizen and file for GC back in 2010. and it took more than 2 years to get my GC after involving local congressman to the process.

      Best of luck.

      Thanks,
      Nandish Patel
