  • What is my joint sponsor's household number?

Hello! I (US citizen) currently live outside of the country with my spouse (Swedish) and two children (both US citizens). I'm planning to submit an i-130 soon so we can all move to the US. As my job is here and I currently have no US income, my mum is going to be hubby's joint sponsor (for i-864), we'll also be living with her until we get work.
I'm not sure how many people to count as her household size for the income requirements though. She currently lives with two other people as she shares a house with my grandmother (who has her own pension) and my 12 year old cousin, for whom she's the guardian and receives SS money (both parents died).

Does one just count a dependant as part of the household or should we also include my grandmother?

Secondly, will we need to include just my husband in the household number, as he's whom we're sponsoring or will me and our daughters also need to be included?

I wasn't worried before if our household number would be 7 as she makes decent money, but with the pandemic and her loss of overtime, we're riding the line if we have to meet 125% for a household of 7! ????

Thank you very much to anyone who can shine some light on the guidelines!

The joint sponsor (your mother) needs to count herself, her spouse, anyone claimed as her dependent on her taxes, and your husband (the intending immigrant). She does not have to count people living in the same residence if she doesn't claim them as her dependent (unless she wants to count them to include their income).

This is my personal opinion and is not to be construed as legal advice.
