  • Family based vs Employment based application

I am currently working in the US on an H-1B and my employer is sponsoring me for a green card at the EB3 level. We are only at the stage of filing the I-140.

Recently, I got engaged and my fiancee is a born American citizen.

I'm pretty sure getting married and getting a family based green card would be faster, but how much faster? Wouldn't I still have to file an I-485 to adjust my status, which seems to take the longest?

I don't want to rush the marriage if it only means a few months saved. I have a feeling it will be years saved based upon the current EB3 backlog.

You are correct, marriage based would be a matter of months.

@daru786 - A matter of months in difference from Employment Based? Or a matter of months total processing? I believe I know what you meant, but I just wanted to verify. Thanks.

You will get your GC in a matter of months if you get married to a USC, provided everything in order.

Thanks for taking the time to clarify daru786.

This is what I thought but it is nice to get some direct feedback from someone even it if it to tell you what you think you already know.
